Randy leaves Saturday, August 20th for Toronto and then on to Copenhagen, Denmark via Air Canada. I was invited by a San Francisco player to join West Coast United to play in an international over70 soccer tournament being held in Roskilde, Denmark. Their team is comprised of players from the San Francisco Bay Area and the Seattle area. I am their only Canadian recruit. I am 68 years old, but each team in this tournament is allowed up to four underage players who cannot be younger than 68. Only two underage players can play at a time.

The actual tournament begins Wednesday, August 24th with teams from around the world. In our grouping we have a team from England and a team from Scandinavia. Pretty exciting to match my soccer skills against European players. It is a three day tournament with up to six games over the three days. I have played in the past with a few of the players on West Coast United.
I decided to book an Airbnb in Copenhagen in order to enjoy the city and commute each day to Roskilde which is west of Copenhagen. Lana will fly to Toronto and then on to Copenhagen Thursday, August and arrives the following day. Her oldest nephew Thomas is working and living in Copenhagen so we will visit with him and his Danish girlfriend.
On Monday, August 29th we fly from Copenhagen to Frankfurt, Deutschland and then rent a car. Our first destination will be the Mosel valley that we visited six years ago. The main focus will be visiting our favourite Weinguts to sample the best Riesling in the world and make some purchases of course. We will eventually make it to Wiesbaden to visit friends and hopefully friends in Heidelberg. Back to the Mosel for more wine tastings and maybe some hiking and biking. We will return to Frankfurt to visit with another German friend and hoping to get tickets to a Bundesliga match in Frankfurt.
We will return to Vancouver Sunday, September 11th.
You may have no idea where Denmark is relative to Deutschland? As you can see from the map below that Denmark is on the very northern border. Their Danish language has many similarities to the German language. Just to the east of Denmark is Sweden. We have never been to Denmark so we are both very much looking forward to new adventures.
